Since 2016, IE has been exploring slow, heavy, long-form hypnotic landscapes. IE's past work has a focus on repeated melodic patterns where haunting vocals, both sung and spoken, appear intermittently. In a year when our drummer began suffering from a constellation of rare diseases attacking her immune and neurological systems as well as connective tissues, IE began exploring the desire for these slow and heavy beats as a source of transcendence - trying to cope with the challenges of living in a body, and trying to stretch beyond it.

This idea became the theme of the music in Junk Body. In generating new material, IE stretched three songs (tracks 1, 3, 6) Mariel Oliveira had written on a Casio MT-65 into longer forms, and wrote three more tracks collectively (tracks 2, 4, 5). The album features more guitar than past albums, and features vague shadings of country, doo-wop, and stoner metal. The songs on Junk Body shape the band's obsessive interest in repetition, drone, and heavy pulses around Oliveira's surreal style of singing to find a music that is searching for a higher plateau of life.
